Mediterranean Climate – hot dry summers, cold wet winters
Midwinter is June/July – known as the Green Season or Secret Season and we do experience many clear, fine sunny days.
June solstice is usually the herald of winter proper, with most rainfall during the latter half of winter.
Midsummer is December/January although our best months are usually February/March, hot, dry and no wind. Please note that unfortunately, anything to do with weather is NOT a given.
South Africa has one of the highest daily sunshine rates in the world. 7 ½ to 9 ½ hours sunshine daily as compared to 4 hours London and 7 hours New York.
Average Summer Temperature 24.3 degrees (As hot as up to +33 degrees in small doses)
Average Winter temperature 18.5 degrees (Can occasionally be as cool as 6 degrees) Winter rainfall averages 500 mm per year, 1 500mm in Newlands and 300mm at Cape Point nature reserve.
